This Kenyan founder built a tool to help startups find funding faster

Duncan Muriithi knows firsthand how exhausting the funding search can be. The Nairobi-based software engineer and serial founder has spent the better part of a decade building startups, raising money, and sitting through accelerator programs including 500 Global in Canada and Antler East Africa. That experience made one thing clear: finding the right funder is almost as hard as building the product itself.

So in October 2025, he launched Startup Map Hub, a tool designed to help founders find funding opportunities, check their eligibility, and prepare applications without starting from scratch every single time. Since opening payments in February 2026, the platform has brought in over $2,000 in revenue, with 2,415 registered founders and at least 35 paying users.

Muriithi's path here runs through some serious entrepreneurial mileage. He co-founded Nestmetric, an AI churn-prediction tool, after joining MEST in Ghana in 2016, raising $80,000 before his exit in 2020. He then co-founded Africa Data School, which grew revenue from about $10,000 to $110,000 in just over a year. Most recently, he served as CTO of Prosper Hedge and helped raise $150,000.

Startup Map Hub grew out of an earlier free directory he built called Startup Map Africa, tracking startups, funding opportunities, and tech events across the continent. Weekly visitors climbed from around 20 to a peak of 1,214 in May 2026, mostly through organic Google Search. But founder feedback quickly revealed the real problem. Peter Nyaga of tourism startup Soko Guide put it plainly: each application took him more than four hours and asked for the same information in different words every time.

Muriithi told TechCabal: "The directory brought the traffic, but the real bottlenecks are knowing whether you qualify and the hours each application takes." Whether Startup Map Hub can solve what even the best-funded founders struggle with is the question worth watching.
