YouTube Music is about to start labelling AI-generated songs, which means the next time a track stops you mid-scroll, you will actually know whether a real person poured their heart into it or whether someone typed a prompt and let an algorithm do the heavy lifting.
Now, to the money story. Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals is taking its IPO on a pan-African tour, and southern Africa now has its own front door. The Southern African Development Community's Committee of Stock Exchanges has chosen Botswana as the regional hub for investors who want in on the offer. Access Bank Botswana will serve as the depository receipt issuer, meaning the region gets one clean, shared entry point instead of every market scrambling to build its own separate arrangement.
The numbers behind the offer are hard to ignore. Aliko Dangote's refinery is looking to issue 4.1 billion shares and raise 2.15 trillion naira, roughly 1.6 billion dollars, from capital markets across the continent. Investor appetite has already pushed demand to more than three or four times the available shares, which is a strong signal for a deal of this size.
Even with that kind of interest on the table, the company extended the offer deadline to October 27 to give more pan-African investors the chance to participate. Whether that extra time opens the door wider for retail investors across the region, or mostly benefits institutional players, is the question worth watching.
