A new live tech show wants to change African tech coverage

Fatu Ogwuche spent a year building an audience through Twitter Spaces conversations with founders, investors, and tech professionals. That series drew more than 100,000 cumulative listeners. Now she is ready to go bigger. Ogwuche, an entrepreneur and former Meta executive, is launching Tech This Week, a weekly live technology show under her media company Big Tech This Week.

The show will blend tech news rundowns with interviews covering business, products, and culture. It is free to watch, supported by sponsorships, advertising, and paid segments. Ogwuche told TechCabal that she has secured around four sponsors, giving the show enough runway for a full year of weekly broadcasts. She did not name the sponsors or share the investment figures.

The thinking behind it is straightforward. Ogwuche believes a news article or a recorded podcast does not always give audiences enough room to engage with the people building the companies that shape their daily lives. "It's a very important time to hear directly from the people who are essentially in the middle of your life," she said. Her reference point for the format is TBPN, the live tech show that covers Silicon Valley.

The intended audience spans founders, investors, operators, regulators, and everyday tech users. Big Tech This Week already reaches audiences in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Ethiopia, as well as diaspora communities in the UK, the US, and Canada. Its largest existing audience falls between ages 25 and 44.

Whether a live format can do for African tech what TBPN has done for Silicon Valley coverage is the real question Ogwuche is betting on.
