48 rejections later, Bode Roberts went from job seeker to opportunity builder

When Bode Roberts struggled to break into the workforce, he realised the problem was not his drive; the system itself was broken. So, instead of waiting for a seat at someone else’s table, he built his own. In his latest My Life in Tech feature, JOHN ADOYI chronicles how Roberts turned years of job-hunting silence into Dataleum, an award-winning EdTech platform transforming African talent into a global export.

297 applications. 48 interviews. Three years without a job.

For Bode Roberts, co-founder of the edtech platform Dataleum, those numbers were more than a record of an unsuccessful job search. They represented three years of hope, rejection, and uncertainty, and eventually forced him to confront what it meant to measure his worth by whether someone would employ him.

“It was a cycle of hope followed by the heavy silence of rejection,” Roberts says.
