Weekly round-up: Nigerian stars shining abroad in Europe's top leagues

Victor Osimhen has spent more of September watching from the bench than playing on it. The Galatasaray striker pulled up with a groin strain during a 3-2 win over İstanbul Başakşehir earlier in the month, and he's missed three matches since with Galatasaray not committing to a firm return date – just "a few more weeks," which in football usually means longer. Losing a striker who'd been central to the side's attack leaves a fairly obvious dent, and it shows up in how often his name gets mentioned in press conferences he isn't even at.

Ademola Lookman, meanwhile, is well past the settling-in stage at Atlético Madrid. He joined on transfer deadline day back in February and scored on his debut, so by now he's had the better part of a season to get comfortable.

Turkey's Süper Lig continues to be the place where Nigerian strikers go to remind everyone they can still finish. Kelechi Iheanacho has barely had a quiet month at Bursaspor, adding to a tally that's turned him from a fringe figure at Celtic into someone defences in Turkey now actually prepare for.

Paul Onuachu ended an eight-match run without a goal in some style, scoring twice as Trabzonspor put five past Gençlerbirliği, though things turned sour fast when he picked up a knock and had to be helped off. Wilfred Ndidi has kept his head down at Beşiktaş through a summer of transfer noise – Manchester United's interest came and went without much fuss on his end – and he's still first name on the team sheet in midfield.
