Victony's SLICK was already having a year. The Ozedikus-produced track spent three consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Nigeria's Official Top 100, marking Victony's first solo chart-topper there, and climbed to No. 2 on Billboard's U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart for three weeks. Now the Lagos artist is taking the record even further, dropping a remix featuring American heavyweights Don Toliver and Summer Walker.
The pairing makes a lot of sense when you hear it. Summer Walker brings her signature understated R&B softness, while Don Toliver layers in the melodic, elastic energy he is known for. Together they give SLICK a cross-continental dimension that should open the song up to a whole new listener base.
This is not Victony and Toliver's first time linking up, either. Toliver appeared on the 2023 remix of Soweto with Rema, a record that reached No. 12 on the UK Official Independent Singles Chart and held on for 16 weeks. The chemistry between them was already there, and this remix builds on it.
SLICK lives on Victony's sophomore album STARLIFE, released in August, which also features BNXN, Blaqbonez, YKB, Babyboy AV, Fola, and Young Jonn. The remix arrives on the heels of Victony performing the track on BBC Radio 1Xtra's Live Lounge in September, and with Toliver coming off his own album OCTANE. Three artists, all mid-momentum. The timing could not be better.
