Government Ekpemupolo, the Niger Delta warlord and former militant leader widely known as Tompolo, is making his position on Bola Tinubu's political future very clear. He is urging Lagos residents and supporters not to allow a repeat of what happened during the 2023 elections, as the conversation around President Tinubu's re-election bid begins to pick up momentum.
Tompolo describes Tinubu as a selfless and courageous leader, pointing specifically to the bold reforms the president has pursued since taking office. His argument is that a leader willing to make tough, unpopular decisions without keeping one eye on his own re-election prospects deserves strong backing when the time comes.
The endorsement from a figure as influential as Tompolo carries weight, particularly across the South-South. Whether that energy translates into the kind of organised ground-level support that could shift the political calculus in Lagos remains the real question to watch.
