The Weeknd is giving a Million dollars to help victims of war conflicts in Ethiopia, his home country. In the early 1980's, The Weeknd's parents, Makkonen and Samra emigrated from Ethiopia to settle in Canada.
" My heart is broken for my Ethiopian people as innocent civilians ranging from small children to elderly are senselessly murdered and whole villages are displaced by fear and destruction. I will donate $1 million to provide 2 million meals through the United Nations World Food Program and encourage those who can donate too ", he wrote on Instagram, providing a link for fans to contribute to the collection.
