The whip-smart South African investor leading the way for women

Louisa Mojela looks relaxed, well turned out and in charge on a warm July Monday morning from her seat overlooking the rooftops of London from the top of her Park Lane hotel. She has a lot to be thankful for; the South African has completed over 30-years career as a shrewd investor at the helm of Women Investment Portfolio Holdings - WIPHOLD - a company set up with the intention of empowering women in her country's post 1994 democracy.

Unlisted company WIPHOLD invests in everything from agriculture to coal mines in a sprawling portfolio.

Mojela, a dasher with the racquet in her youth, also took in a couple of days of tennis at Wimbledon while in town, including the women's final.

"This year, I fancy Naomi Osaka or Coco Gauff," she says with a smile when I ask her for a prediction. Sadly, neither made the final, but when it comes to investment in Africa, Mojela has a solid track record of picking winners.
