Twenty writers are standing between themselves and £18,000 each, after the shortlist for the 2026 Morland African Writing Scholarships was announced this week.
The pool of finalists was drawn from over 600 entries submitted by published African writers across 32 countries. That kind of reach says something real about how seriously writers across the continent are investing in their craft and their futures.
Nigeria leads the shortlist with seven writers, followed by South Africa with five. The remaining spots pull from the wider continent, making this one of the more geographically spread shortlists the prize has seen.
Now the wait begins. Watch this space.
