Tanzania is on track to achieve universal electricity access by 2030, according to Deogratius Ndejembi, the country's minister of energy.
"Electricity access has expanded to 85.5% of the population, up from 78.4% in 2020, while connectivity has risen to 52.1% from 37.7% over the same period," he says.
Rural communities have benefited the most from this electrification drive. "We have electrified all 12,318 villages in the country" he tells African Business.
Ndejembi emphasises that partnerships with private developers and investors have been pivotal in expanding Tanzania's power generation capacity and diversifying the country's energy mix.
