South African author Diane Awerbuck Launches Fishwife, a Poetry Collection of Catch and Release
Diane Awerbuck stepped into Kalk Bay Books in Cape Town on 27 October for the launch of her new poetry collection, Fishwife, published by Modjaji Books. The seaside-suburb bookshop made a fitting home for the evening, and an appreciative crowd turned out to mark the occasion.
Awerbuck was in conversation with Charisse Louw, curator of Burning Down the House, giving the launch the feel of a proper literary dialogue rather than a solo reading. The pairing brought an extra layer of energy to what was already a warmly anticipated night.
Fishwife is Awerbuck's latest offering from Modjaji Books, the South African independent press with a long track record of championing women's voices. If the launch crowd is any indication, readers are already paying attention.
