Saturday, October 3 brought a double celebration for Nigerian literature, as two writers claimed trophies at the 2026 Ignyte Awards on the same night.
Somto Ihezue took home Outstanding Novelette for "We Begin Where Infinity Ends," originally published in Clarkesworld. Across the room, Albert Nkereuwem won Outstanding Short Story for "Commensalism, Or the Labyrinth's Vessels," published by Will This Be A Problem.
Two wins, one night, one country. Nigerian speculative fiction is clearly having its moment, and we will be watching closely to see what both writers do next.
