Skepta and Asake team up on 'Aloe Vera'

Skepta and Asake have linked up on "Aloe Vera," a track lifted from Skepta's The Fork and Knife project, released through Big Smoke Records under exclusive licence to Epic Records. It is the kind of collaboration that feels inevitable, given how much creative energy has been flowing between London and Lagos for years now.

The production comes from Lex Luger, Vanko and FRANKIE XY, and they build something worth paying attention to: heavy, trap-leaning 808s and crisp drum programming carry the foundation, while log-drum accents and acoustic melodies bring in a warm West African current. The result sits comfortably between UK rap and Afrobeats without feeling forced into either box.

Skepta holds his corner with precise, authoritative delivery, while Asake brings his signature choir-backed Afro-fusion harmonies to the chorus and completely lifts the record. The two styles pull in different directions just enough to create real tension, and that tension is what makes the song replay-worthy.

Lyrically, aloe vera works as a metaphor for healing and staying composed when the pressure builds. The themes of resilience, stress relief, success and self-preservation give "Aloe Vera" more substance than a glossy crossover record usually carries, and that is what will keep it in rotation long after the first wave of buzz settles.
