Wunmi Mosaku walked into the 2026 BAFTAs heavily pregnant, picked up Best Supporting Actress for "Sinners," and did it all in a custom royal blue Ahluwalia gown that has been living rent-free in our heads ever since the photos landed.
The dress is a one-shoulder silhouette with a separate coordinating choker piece cut from the same fabric, and that single detail does a lot of work. The bodice is built from layered folded panels that give the whole thing real depth, and the skirt falls into a full-length fringe hem with a subtle front split. Every time she moved, the fringe moved with her. The blue is rich and consistent throughout, and it sits beautifully against her skin.
The story behind the look is just as good as the look itself. Stylist Shameelah Hicks put the whole thing together and made a point of celebrating the fact that she was dressing her client in a fellow British-Nigerian designer. Hicks has a clear approach when it comes to Wunmi: colour is non-negotiable, and comfort has to show up too. "We go for comfort but we don't want to look like we are wearing maternity clothes," she said. The shoes are Stuart Weitzman strappy heeled sandals, and Wunmi herself noted that finding cute footwear options while pregnant is genuinely difficult, which is exactly why having a stylist who always figures it out matters.
Jewellery is Moussaieff, silver hoops and rings, kept intentionally understated. Dionne Smith did a neat low braided updo that keeps the dress's shoulder and neckline fully visible. Makeup artist Joy Adenuga, who is Nigeria-born and London-based, delivered a bold teal and blue eyeshadow that matches the gown so precisely it feels like part of the original design. Nails by Lucy Tucker Nails rounded out the full picture.
This is what a great red carpet moment looks like: every single person in that team brought something, and the woman at the centre of it all went home with a BAFTA. We will be thinking about this one for a while.
