The lights were on in Lagos on Friday, October 9, when Nigeria LNG Limited held its Grand Award Night, bringing together three Nigerian winners to celebrate excellence across the Nigeria Prizes.
Poet Ogaga Ifowodo walked away with the headline prize, the $100,000 Nigeria Prize for Literature, in what was a poetry year for the competition. His win came after judges worked through a field of 223 entries, making the recognition all the more significant.
Two other Nigerian winners were also honored on the night, rounding out an evening that put local literary and creative achievement front and center in Lagos.
With $100,000 on the table and hundreds of poets daring to submit, you have to wonder who is already writing with the next prize in mind.
