One in four children under five stunted in Akwa Ibom, survey shows

One in four children under the age of five in Akwa Ibom state is stunted. That is the finding from a national survey, which puts the figure at 24.1 per cent, a number that points to a serious and ongoing problem with chronic malnutrition in the region.

In response, Akwa Ibom is moving to set up nutrition committees across all 31 of its local government areas. The goal is to bring coordinated action closer to the communities where children are most affected.

Whether those committees will have the resources and teeth to make a real difference is the question worth watching.
