Mourners killed by Kenya police at Odinga national farewell not part of violence, BBC finds

Three people were shot dead near the Raila Odinga national farewell in Kenya, and a BBC Africa Eye investigation has found they were nowhere near any fighting when they died.

The team behind the investigation combed through more than 1,500 videos and images captured around the memorial event. What that visual evidence shows is striking: the victims were not caught up in scuffles. They were at a distance from any unrest when Kenyan police opened fire.

The findings directly contradict any suggestion that the deaths were an unavoidable consequence of crowd violence. BBC Africa Eye's analysis places the mourners away from conflict, raising serious questions about how and why lethal force was used that day.
