Cameras were rolling across Nairobi on the day Kenyans gathered to bid farewell to former prime minister Raila Odinga, and what those cameras captured tells a troubling story.
A BBC Africa Eye investigation reviewed more than 1,500 videos and images from the memorial event. What the team found directly contradicts any suggestion that the people killed by police died in the heat of clashes or unrest.
The analysis shows that the mourners who lost their lives were not near the scuffles at all. They were, by the evidence of the footage itself, nowhere close to the violence when they were shot.
The findings raise sharp questions about the conduct of security forces on a day that was meant to be a moment of national mourning. With this level of visual documentation now on record, those questions are not going away quietly.
