President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has formally asked Liberia's Legislature to give his administration one extra week to submit the country's draft fiscal 2027 budget, pushing the delivery date to November 6.
The request is not about missing a deadline for its own sake. Boakai says the Finance Ministry is technically capable of meeting the legal cutoff, but rushing to do so would mean handing over a budget built on an incomplete revenue forecast, and that would limit the government's ability to put the money to its best use.
It is a small ask with a practical argument behind it. Whether the Legislature agrees, and what the budget ultimately looks like when it arrives, is the part worth watching.
