Kenya: Suspected Killer of Father Bett Arrested

Kenyan police have arrested Meshack Kilimo, the main suspect in the murder of Catholic priest Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett. The arrest came on June 10, after Kilimo allegedly killed another man with an arrow during a land dispute in the same region where the priest was slain.

Father Bett was shot dead in the Tot area of the Kerio Valley, located on the western plateau of Kenya. His killing, reported in late May 2025, had shaken the local community and drawn widespread attention to the ongoing tensions in that part of the country.

The fact that Kilimo was picked up following yet another alleged killing in the very same area raises hard questions about the cycle of violence gripping the Kerio Valley and how land disputes there continue to turn deadly.
