Kenya: High Court Suspends Joho's Directive Allowing Fishing in Lake Nakuru

A Kenyan court has put the brakes on a controversial fishing directive before it could take effect. The High Court in Nakuru issued a temporary suspension of the directive signed by Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, which would have allowed fishermen to resume fishing inside Lake Nakuru National Park.

Joho, who heads the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, had greenlit the return of fishing activity to the protected lake. The court's move puts that permission on hold while the matter is reviewed further.

Lake Nakuru is one of Kenya's most iconic national parks, known globally for its flamingo populations and delicate ecosystem. Any commercial activity within its boundaries tends to draw sharp attention from conservationists and legal advocates alike. Watch this space as the case unfolds.
