A teacher at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School is in custody after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission arrested him on allegations that he demanded Sh300,000 from three unemployed teachers in exchange for securing them positions at the Teachers Service Commission.
According to the EACC, the suspect collected the money from three job seekers who were desperately hoping he could pull strings and get them hired by the TSC. The commission did not release further details about how long the scheme had been running or how the payments were made.
Job scams targeting unemployed teachers are not new in Kenya, and cases like this one are a reminder of how badly the lack of formal hiring transparency can leave people vulnerable. Three people handed over their money chasing a promise, and now a criminal case is what they have to show for it.
