Work on the Kaduna-Kano rail line was less than 30 per cent complete when President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023. The APC Campaign Council has now announced that the line will be inaugurated on 3 December, signaling a significant push to get the project across the finish line.
The broader regional picture tells a similar story of inherited delays. The Kano-Katsina-Maradi railway, a cross-border project that would eventually connect Nigeria to Niger Republic, stood at barely five per cent completion when the current administration came in.
Whether the December date holds, and what stage of completion the Kaduna-Kano line will actually be at by then, is the question everyone in the region is now watching closely.
