Chelsea forward João Pedro has opened up about the reasons behind his impressive start to the season under new manager Xabi Alonso.
The Brazilian has quickly established himself as an important figure in Alonso’s attacking system, producing goals and assists while showing greater confidence in the final third. According to João Pedro, the freedom he has been given by Alonso has played a major role in his improved performances.
"Everyone wants to score, and Xabi (Alonso) tells us always, it doesn't matter what happens, you just need to be focused and be connected to the game and you're going to score. That's why we score many goals this season from the beginning, because I think in the front three you can create a lot. And if you create a lot, you’re going to score a lot of goals as well."
The forward has been able to operate in more advanced areas and make the most of his movement, positioning and attacking instincts. This tactical freedom has helped him become a consistent threat in front of goal.
