Eric Chelle in his latest interview has opened up on why Nigeria failed to secure a ticket and qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has explained why Nigeria failed to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, admitting that dropped points against Zimbabwe proved decisive in the country's unsuccessful qualification campaign.
Speaking in a recent interview with Algerian journalist Riadh Belaïche, Chelle revealed that the Super Eagles were already in a difficult position when he took charge, having collected just three points from their opening four qualifying matches.
"When I arrived, Nigeria had three points from 12. We fought hard to reach the playoffs, but those two dropped points against Zimbabwe hurt us a lot. It was in our hands to qualify for the World Cup but we didn't," Chelle said.
