Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has been handed a new jersey number following the departure of goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.
Martínez initially wore the No.26 shirt after joining Chelsea, making his debut in that number during the club’s Premier League campaign. However, with the No.1 shirt now available, the Argentine has switched to the traditional goalkeeper’s number.
The change marks a quick turnaround for Martínez, who spent only a short period wearing No.26. The World Cup-winning goalkeeper will now wear No.1 as he continues his new chapter at Stamford Bridge.
Martínez has also made a classy gesture towards supporters who already bought his No.26 shirt. Chelsea confirmed that he will sign official “Martinez 26” shirts purchased from the club’s Megastore or official website, provided fans bring proof of purchase to Stamford Bridge by October 4.
