Dr Donkor named recipient of prestigious Distinguished African Development Finance Leadership award
Dr George Agyekum Donkor, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development, is heading to the House of Lords. On 3 July 2026, he will receive the Distinguished African Development Finance Leadership Award for Regional Integration and Economic Transformation at the 16th African Business Leadership Awards. The honour comes from the African Leadership Organisation (UK) Limited and the Editorial Board of African Leadership Magazine, following a merit-based evaluation process.
The citation from the Editorial Board credits Dr Donkor with bridging policy, capital structuring, and execution at EBID, connecting sovereign priorities with global investment flows. His work mobilising concessional and market-rate capital, advancing blended finance and co-investment frameworks, and strengthening financial systems across the ECOWAS region earned him particular recognition.
Beyond the individual award, EBID has been named a Strategic Development Finance Partner of the ALM Africa Summit 2026. Dr Donkor will also serve as Special Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker at the ceremony, and will join a closed-door session with select members of the UK House of Lords alongside heads of state, ministers, central bank governors, and global policy leaders.
Responding to the nomination, Dr Donkor described the recognition as a tribute to the EBID team, member states, and development partners. He pointed to inclusive finance, SME growth, women-led enterprise development, and infrastructure financing as the pillars driving the institution's long-term vision for West Africa.
The summit convenes under the theme "From Vision to Velocity: Driving Africa's Next Wave of Growth and Leadership" and is expected to bring together over 400 senior delegates. With that room and that stage, all eyes will be on what EBID signals next.
