A Federal Capital Development Authority official has been sentenced to seven years in prison for defrauding a land buyer in Abuja. Mr Eselebor, who worked in the FCDA's Department of Urban and Regional Planning, presented plots of land to a buyer as genuine properties, even though he had no valid title to transfer.
The court found that Eselebor's position within a government planning department made the fraud particularly convincing, and particularly damaging, to the victim who trusted that the transaction was above board.
For anyone navigating Abuja's notoriously complex land market, this case is a sharp reminder to verify titles independently before any money changes hands.
