Cool FM Announces COMA, the Cool FM Music Awards, Recognising the Sounds and Creatives Shaping Nigerian Music

After nearly 30 years on Nigerian airwaves, Cool FM is making its biggest cultural move yet. The station has officially announced COMA, the Cool FM Music Awards, a new recognition platform dedicated to celebrating the full range of talent behind Nigeria's music industry. This is not just about the artists at the top of the charts. It is about everyone who helps get them there.

COMA is built around a straightforward idea: no hit record happens alone. The awards recognise producers, DJs, directors, photographers, designers, content creators and fans as essential parts of the creative process. That philosophy shapes the entire structure of the platform, which spans 17 award categories plus one prestigious Cool FM Icon Award.

The categories are organised across four pillars: Music, Creative and Visuals, Fashion and Style, and Culture and Influence. The breadth of that framework signals that COMA is thinking beyond the stage and the studio, taking seriously the visual storytellers, stylists and cultural voices that help define what Nigerian music looks and feels like to the world.

Cool FM CEO Serge Noujaim spoke directly to the motivation behind the launch. "Nigerian music has conquered the world," he said. "It is time we honour the people making it happen." With that, the question becomes: who will COMA put a spotlight on first?
