The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development has launched the Living Archives Initiative, a project aimed at digitising and preserving the works of journalists who shaped media history across Africa.
Dapo Olorunyomi, publisher of Premium Times and chief executive of CJID, says the initiative will protect the legacies of the people who built journalism on the continent, ensuring their contributions are not lost to time.
Details on which archives will be digitised first, and when, have not yet been shared. But the announcement alone signals a growing recognition that African media history deserves the same careful preservation given to other cultural records. Watch this space.
