Twenty brand-new picture books, written and illustrated by young Nigerians, are now out in the world. The Book Buzz Foundation officially unveiled the collection in Abuja, making good on a promise that had the children's publishing community watching closely.
The books were produced under the Nigerian Picture Book Project, known as the NPBP, with backing from the European Union. What makes this collection especially meaningful is its reach: the creative talent behind it comes from all six of Nigeria's geopolitical zones, making it a genuinely national effort.
For anyone who has spent time looking for Nigerian children's books that actually reflect the children reading them, this moment matters. Twenty titles is just the beginning, and the question now is where these books land next.
