Bibi Bakare-Yusuf on Why Power Matters More Than Representation: Rolling Stone Africa Reports from the Black British Book Festival
Cassava Republic Press founder Bibi Bakare-Yusuf took the stage at the Black British Book Festival on October 4, 2026, at London's Barbican Centre, and Rolling Stone Africa was there to capture what she had to say.
The publication has since built a full feature around her remarks, centering her perspective on why power in the publishing industry matters more than simply having more Black faces in more places.
That distinction, between representation and actual power, is the conversation Bakare-Yusuf seems determined to keep pushing. The Rolling Stone Africa piece suggests her words landed. Whether the industry is listening is another question entirely.
