Africa's AI moment: Is Africa ready to reap the economic benefits of AI?

Speaking at the Infra for Africa Forum, where he set the scene for a panel discussion focused on the future of Africa's digital economy, Ademola cited the findings of a study conducted by Bazara Tech for the African Development Bank (AfDB) during the G20 meetings in South Africa last year.

The study found that the sectors that are poised to benefit the most from AI-related investments are agriculture, wholesale and retail, manufacturing, finance and inclusion, and health and life sciences.

However, for these economic gains to be realised, Africa must accelerate investments in the digital infrastructure that underpins AI and the broader digital economy, Ademola argued.

"The study found that compute and digital infrastructure is where Africa lags the most when benchmarked against G20 countries," he said.
