2027 Elections: Forensic Institute calls for ‘stress test’ of INEC’s technology six months to elections

Six months before any major election, the pressure is already building. At a Democracy Day event held in Abuja on Friday, Iliyasu Gashinbaki, Founder and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIFCFIN, made a pointed call for a formal "stress test" of the Independent National Electoral Commission's technology ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gashinbaki's message was direct: Nigeria cannot afford to wait until election season to find out whether the systems meant to protect the vote actually work. A stress test, in his framing, would mean putting INEC's technology through its paces well in advance, identifying weak points before they become election-day crises.

The call lands at a moment when public confidence in electoral technology remains a live conversation across the country. With 2027 still on the horizon, the question now is whether INEC and those in positions of oversight are listening closely enough to act in time.
